The journey from Awalime
Awalime — “the people who set out”
Oral tradition holds that the ancestors of Gbi-Bla, the Awalime, left southern Nigeria and moved west through Benin, Dahomey and Notsie before crossing to the banks of the River Dayi. Each stopping place left its mark on the language, drumming and stool names still used today.
